About the LRC

Located on the first floor of Gilbert Hall, the LRC facility is undergoing renovations starting Summer 2014. Upon completion, the facility will include two computer labs for instructional and self-study use as well as a conference room, a recording studio, and a research space. The LRC also provides instructional support including hands-on training and workshops, equipment checkout, and an extensive foreign language film collection for checkout.

Franklin OIT provides Information and Instructional Technology support to faculty, staff, and students who use the facility. To request assistance or schedule a room reservation, please submit a helpdesk ticket.

Renovations

Beginning Summer 2014, Gilbert 112, 113, 116, and 118 will be closed for renovation. Construction is scheduled to begin Fall 2014. Upon completion, Gilbert 112, 116, and 118 will be converted to classrooms, and Gilbert 113 will be converted to an instructional computer lab. In addition, Gilbert 113 will be available for students as a self-study lab when not in use.

Gilbert 119 - Research Lab

Gilbert 120 - Recording Studio

Gilbert 121 - Instructional Lab

  • Instructor work station: PC Desktop Computer, LCD Projection, Audio system
  • Student work stations: 12 PC Desktop Computers
  • Specialized Software: Audacity, Goldvarb, Praat, R, R Studio, Skype, VLC Media Player, Wordsmith

Gilbert 122 - Conference Room

  • Instructor work station: LCD Projection with a laptop connection

Reservations

Teaching labs and research facilities may be reserved on a first come, first served basis no more than two weeks prior to the event date.

To reserve a room, please submit a helpdesk ticket.

Requesting Access

Currently, access to the Gilbert 121 instructional lab is restricted via keypad lock. Faculty requesting access (for themselves or on behalf of their students) may submit a helpdesk ticket including the name and last 4 digits of the CAN number for the individual needing access, or stop by our Instructional Technology Team office (located in Gilbert 102) between 8:00 - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Student access codes are cleared each semester unless otherwise requested by the supervising faculty member.

Film Collection Information

Scheduling Film Showings

Franklin OIT is happy to accommodate classes needing to view films in our facilities during regular facility hours. We will provide films for students to view individually or schedule regular viewing times. Please submit a helpdesk ticket to make film-viewing arrangements.

Film Checkout

To check out films, please stop by our Franklin OIT Instructional Technology team office in Gilbert 102.

  1. Undergraduate students may check out a film for viewing in the lab only. (Due to construction, Gilbert 121 is currently being used for undergraduate film viewing. Members of the Franklin OIT Instructional Technology team can provide room availability information at the time of film checkout.)

  2. Graduate students needing to view a film for a graduate class may check out a video for a 24-hour period.

  3. Any faculty member, instructor, or teaching assistant may check out a film for the duration of the semester provided that he or she is teaching the film as part of a course taught on that given semester or will use the film for research or course preparation for a subsequent semester.

Please note: Franklin OIT may recall a film at any time in order to accommodate requests and meet demands for film viewings.

Equipment Checkout

The Language Resource Center has web cameras and microphones available for checkout. To reserve equipment, please submit a helpdesk ticket or stop by our Franklin OIT Instructional Technology team office in Gilbert 102.
